ABSF Supports the LWC with the Lumberjack Run

Hayward, WI (July 21, 2016) — Over 100 years ago, lumberjacks felled timber throughout the north woods of Wisconsin. Today, and with a nod toward the region’s deep-seated timber roots, runners and walkers will be channeling their flannel for the Lumberjack Run/Walk on July 30, 2017.

This event marks the blending of two iconic community events – the Birkie (American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation) and the Lumberjack World Championships (LWC) – both the brainchild of the late founder Tony Wise. The fun run/walk starts and finishes at the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, WI. The Lumberjack Run/Walk starts at 8:00am and will follow a scenic 4.7 mile route around Lake Hayward, Hayward, WI.

Registration is available online at www.LumberjackRun.com or in person at the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation office at 10527 Main Street, Hayward, WI, 54843. The first 150 registrants will receive a Lumberjack Run/Walk t-shirt and one free pass to the Lumberjack World Championship preliminary competition, while supplies last. The LWC tickets are available for either the July 28 or 29, 2017 competitions. Participants must pick-up their race packets on either July 28 or 29 at the Birkie office between 8:00am and 4:00pm in order to use their ticket for Thursday or Friday’s LWC competition.

Lumberjack Run/Walk registration is available on race day from 7:00am to 7:45am under the Birkie tent located directly across from the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame in the grass-covered parking area. Race day registration does not qualify for free LWC tickets, however, does qualify for all contest prizes and t-shirts while supplies last.

Lumberjack Run/Walk registration for ages 19 and over is $35 after July 24, with $10 registration for ages 18 and under through race day.

The Lumberjack Run/Walk is powered by the Birkie (American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation) and the LWC (Lumberjack World Championships). This community-focused event is sponsored by: Tremblay’s Sweet Shop, Inc.; Hayward Land Title Company; Tworek Construction; Angler’s Bar & Grill; Backroads Coffee; Coop’s Pizza; Hansen Chiropractic; River’s Edge Business Center; Chippewa Valley bank; Patrick T. Duffy, D.D.S.; Sawyer Country Record; and 92.3 WRLS.
