American Birkebeiner

Adam Swank
Growing up in Rhinelander, Adam will be competing in his 7th consecutive American Birkebeiner and racing for Team Fischer. In 2008, Adam had his best Birkie finishing third. A mainstay on the Midwest racing circuit, Adam has had a great start to the season, winning the Seeley Hills Classic and the Boulder Lake ski races on back to back days in January. With a love for XC skiing that dates back to his childhood years, Adam will be racing the Birkie for many years to come. In his spare time, Adam is employed as a full time ER doctor in Duluth, MN.

Dave Chamberlain
More of a classic specialist, Dave always looks forward to competing at the American Birkebeiner for Team Fischer. Dave’s roots are in Maine, where he grew up skiing near Rumford, Maine and the Chisholm Ski Club. Now married to Beth Ann Chamberlain, Dave has family in northern Minnesota and loves to return here every year for great skiing and reconnecting with family members. A member of the US World Championship teams in 2001, 2003 and 2005, as well as a 4-time National Champion, Dave is looking to stand on the podium in this year’s Birkie.

Evelyn Dong
The 2008 American Birkebeiner Champion will be competing for Team Fischer this year. Inspired after making the switch to a new team, Evelyn is ramped up to again compete for the top spot at this year’s race after a lackluster year in 2009. Always a threat in any long distance freestyle race, Evelyn is still considered to be one of the top marathon skiers in the US for women. Evelyn lives in Bend, OR and trains with the XC Oregon club in the off-season.

Nicole Deyong
Nicole will be competing in her 4th American Birkebeiner in 2010 for Team Fischer. An Anchorage, Alaska native, Nicole is a former NCAA All-American skier at UAA and also has represented the US at the 2004 U23 World Championships and the 2009 Whistler World Cup pre-Olympic races. She will also ski for the US team at the upcoming 2010 Canmore World Cup races and is coming off of her best US Nationals finishes of her career. Nicole was fourth in 2008 and is looking to get her first win at the Birkie this year.

Brayton Osgood, Sylvan Ellefson and Josh Smith round out the Fischer Men’s Team. Kate Whitcomb joins teammates Evelyn and Nicole on the Fischer Women’s Team.
