Getting to the Birkie - By Automobile
The American Birkebeiner ski race is held in the beautiful northwoods of Wisconsin and within driving distance from Chicago, Illinois, the Twin Cities (Minneapolis - St. Paul), Duluth, Minnesota as well as many other outlying areas. See map below.
The region offers 850,000 acres of Chequamegon National Forest, over 200 lakes and rivers, as well as hundreds of miles of groomed trails, and 15 golf courses.
Getting to the Birkie - By Plane
Hayward and Cable are located in Northwestern Wisconsin, approximately three hours from the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota airport. International and national flights service both Minneapolis/St. Paul and Duluth, Minnesota. Flights arrive daily. Direct Duluth-to-Chicago Flights!
United Express now offers two daily nonstop flights between Duluth International Airport and O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. Flight times are as follows:
- Depart Duluth at 6 am; arrive in Chicago at 7:27 am
- Depart Duluth at 3:20 pm; arrive in Chicago at 4:47 pm
- Depart Chicago at 1:10 pm; arrive in Duluth at 2:41 pm
- Depart Chicago at 8:10 pm; arrive in Duluth at 9:41 pm
