THERE IS NO RACE-DAY REGISTRATION
FOR THE BIRKIE TRAIL RUN EVENTS!

  • Register online through Thursday, Sept. 22
  • Register at the Birkie Office in Hayward (across from Marketplace parking lot) on Friday, Sept. 23, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Bag & Bib pick-up is Friday at the Birkie Office, starting at 9:00 am, and Saturday at Telemark, starting at 6:00 am.

RELAY TEAMS* -- ONLY at Birkie Office, Friday, or Start Area, Saturday

Team captains must turn in completed Team Waiver forms and pick up race packets (bib numbers, batons, and vehicle Team Identification Placards) on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 from 9:00 am - 8:00 pm at the American Birkebeiner office at 10527 Main Street in Hayward (across from Marketplace parking lot), or on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 7:00 am - 8:30 am at the Hatchery Creek Park (Relay start area). You may send any one person from your team to pick up the team packet. (In other words, Relay Teams do NOT pick up any bibs at Telemark on Saturday--only at the Start Area at Hatchery Park.)

Marathon Relay

  • All teams will be handicapped based on age and gender, i.e. raw finish times will be adjusted based on the handicap table.
  • There is a 75 Team Limit!!
  • Teams must register by 8:00pm on Friday, September 23, 2011. There is No Race Day Registration for the Marathon Relay.

  • Minimum participant age of 12 on Race Day

Marathon, Half Marathon, Birkie Trek & 5K Run/Walk

  • Friday, September 23, 2011, 9:00am - 8:00pm at the American Birkebeiner office at 10527 Main Street in Hayward
  • Athletes must register by 8:00pm on Friday, September 23, 2011. There is No Race Day Registration for the Marathon, Half Marathon, Birkie Trek or 5K.
  • Saturday, September 24 at Telemark Resort, starting at 6:00am

             ♦Marathoners - from 6:00am - 7:00am
                  Minimum age of 16 on Race Day

             ♦Birkie Trek Nordic Walkers - from 6:00am - 8:00am 
                  Minimum age of 16 on Event Day

             ♦Half Marathoners - from 6:00am - 8:45am
                  Minimum age of 16 on Race Day

             ♦5K Runners/Walkers - from 9:00am - 10:45am
                  Minimum age of 12 on Race Day

START TIMES

Marathon:
Hatchery Park, Hayward - 8:00 a.m.

Marathon Relay:
Hatchery Park, Hayward - 9:00 a.m. – Mandatory, team driver(s) meet at the start area at 8:30 a.m.

Birkie Trek:
"OO" Birkie trail head, Seeley - 9:00 a.m. There will be a warm-up at 8:45 with Linda Lemke, "The Nordic Walking Queen" from Minneapolis. See Linda's Race Day Tips.

Half Marathon:
"OO" Birkie Trail Head, Seeley - 10:30 a.m.

5K Run/Walk:
Telemark Resort, Cable - 11:30 a.m.

Busing *

All Marathon, Half Marathon runners and Birkie Trek Nordic Walkers should park at Telemark Resort (finish area). Runners and Walkers will then be bused to the “00” and Hatchery Park Start areas.

  • Marathoners - Buses leave at 7:15 a.m. promptly!
  • Trekkers - Buses leave at 8:00 a.m. promptly!
  • Half Marathon Runners - Buses will leave at 9:30am promptly!

The bus ride takes about 20-25 minutes.

** NOTE: If you do park your own car at either of the start areas, there will be No bus transportation back to that start area and your car.
 

 

 

Aid Stations

  • There are 8 Aid Stations for the Marathon and Marathon Relay and 4 Aid Stations for the Half Marathon and Trek.
  • Aid Stations are located at: Mosquito Brook, Gravel Pit, 16.5K, "OO", Boedecker, Fire Tower, Timber Trail, and 4K from the Finish Line on the Korte Course
  • Water and energy drink will be available at the Start/Finish and at all Aid Stations.
  • There will be a porta-potty at each aid station, except Fire Tower.
  • There will be a self-service Water Station on the 5K course at the half way point.

Spectators

Spectator parking is limited and up to ¼ mile from the relay exchange points along the Birkie Trail.

The best spectator viewing for the relay runners will be the Exchange Points.

To see relay and marathon runners:

  • Mosquito Brook (5.8K/ 3.6 miles)
  • “00” (21K/ 13.1 miles)
  • Finish line at Telemark Resort (42K/ 26.2 miles)

To see the start and finish of the Birkie Trek and half marathon:

  • County “00”
  • Finish line at Telemark Resort

Pets and Strollers

PLEASE, as a courtesy to all participants, no pets, leashed or unleashed, or strollers on the course.

Awards

Marathon Relay

Awards to winning team members on both 3 and 6 person teams in all divisions:

  • Open - Any team may compete in this division
  • Women - All team members must be female
  • Mixed - 3 person team (minimum of one runner from each gender)
  • 6 person team (minimum of two runners from each gender)

A special Award will be given to each team member of the 3 or 6 person team with the fastest overall handicapped time, regardless of division.

Individual Half Marathon, Individual Marathon & 5K

  • Overall male/female
  • Top two runners in each age/gender class.

    Age Classes for the Half Marathon & Marathon are:
    16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and Over

    Age Classes for the 5K Run are:
    12-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and Over

Post Race Festiviites at Telemark Resort!

The Awards Ceremony will begin with the overall awards at approximately 1:00 p.m. Age Class Awards will be handed out starting at 2:00 p.m. Stay and enjoy a complimentary post-race lunch for all Birkie Trail Run & Trek participants. Lunch is served under the finish Line tent and provided by the famous Brick House cafe in Cable. Sit at tables or enjoy a picnic on the grass, music, camaraderie, and an all-around good time!! Lunch will be available for sale at a nominal charge to non-participants.

Cable Fall Fest Traffic Detour

Please note that during the Birkie Trail Run Events there will be a detour around downtown Cable.

  • Follow US Hwy 63 one block north of County Hwy M to Spruce Street
  • Turn right onto Spruce Street
  • Follow Spruce Street to Randysek Road
  • Take a right onto Randysek Road and go one block until Cty Hwy M
  • Take a left onto Cty. Hwy M to Telemark Road
  • Follow Telemark Road to Telemark Resort
