USA National 50-Mile Trail Champion Comes Home to Run Marathon
Hayward, WI (September 28, 2016) – Three 2015 champions are returning to defend their titles at the 2016 Birkie Trail Run & Trek: Klinner – Ultra Marathon; Braund – Marathon; Stout – Half-Marathon. Corrine Malcolm, Hayward, WI native and USA National 50-Mile Trail Champion is returning to the area to run in the marathon event. Now in its 15th year, the Birkie Trail Run & Trek, sponsored by Salomon, has grown to include eight events with an anticipated field of over 1000 runners and trekkers. From the Ultra 100K marathon to the marathon, marathon relay, and half-marathon, the pool of new and returning athletes is guaranteed to ramp up the excitement and competition on the hills of the legendary Birkie Trail on October 1.
The 2016 Birkie Trail Run marathon, one of the events at the Birkie Trail Run & Trek, has been named the 2016 USA Track and Field (USATF) championship for the state of Wisconsin. In addition, several Birkie Ambassadors – a select group of past Olympians or current USSA Ski Team members – will be on-hand to mentor young athletes or to participate in the day’s running events.

Race Details
The Birkie Trail Run & Trek events start and finish at Birkie Ridge Trailhead, 12.5 miles north of Hayward, Wisconsin, and 5 miles south of Cable, Wisconsin. The eight Birkie Trail Run & Trek events place runners and trekkers on some of the most scenic stretches of the famous Birkie Trail and single-track sections of the CAMBA (Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association) trail system. With eight events on the roster – including a marathon, marathon relay, half marathon, Nordic Trek, 5K run/walk, youth 5K (12 and under) and 1K Kid’s Dash (free for ages 12 and under), along with the 100K Ultra Marathon – there is a north woods trail experience available for every ability level.
