Hayward, Wisconsin (November 7, 2016) – The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF) office today announced that they are an official SkiErg competition site for the SkiErg World Sprints. Nordic skiers, or anyone interested in participating, is invited to stop by the ABSF office on Friday, November 11 from 5-7 pm or at the ‘OO’ Trailhead on Saturday, November 12 from 9-11 am. SkiErg training equipment will be available for you as you take on the SkiErg World Sprints competition challenge.

What is a SkiErg? It is a standing training unit that allows you to replicate a Nordic skiing workout. The SkiErg competition will have competitors racing 1000 meters on the SkiErg stationary equipment. You don’t have to be a skier to compete. With the assistance of the Birkie staff, competitors will post their time in the Concept2 online logbook as they compete with others doing the same around the globe. Worldwide winners of each age group and adaptive category will receive custom engraved cowbells to help ring in the snow season. Prizes will also be awarded for the top three finish times in each age group and adaptive category from all competitors around the world. Families, kids and adults are invited to participate.

Whether you’re an elite cross-country skier looking to improve your poling power, a weekend enthusiast wanting to get into shape for the ski season, or just someone looking for a fun activity, the SkiErg training tool is a great way to get your pre-ski training started. Concept2, manufacturer of SkiErg, has partnered with sites around the world to encourage a healthy-active lifestyle in this fun and friendly competition.
