Spooner Holiday Dash & Double Pole Derby Call Skiers North!

Hayward, WI (December 21, 2017) — With trails expertly groomed and more snow on the way, middle school, high school, and citizen adult cross-country skiers have opportunities to race in the north woods on natural snow. The Spooner Holiday Dash and the Double Pole Derby will provide skiers with early season racing using both classic and skate/freestyle techniques. Held on back-to-back days, both events are a great way for skiers, coaches, teams, friends, and families to have some winter fun and prepare for upcoming races. Both events are fundraisers for local high school Nordic ski teams.

Spooner Holiday Dash – Friday, 12.29.17, Spooner, WI
The Spooner Holiday Dash freestyle races kick-off at 10:00am with a mass start for high school boys (6.5k), high school girls (6.5k), and middle school boys and girls together (3k). After the racing action, skiers can enjoy concessions including warm chili, in the Spooner High School commons, with awards to follow. A “wax box” will be awarded to the top high school boys’ and girls’ teams, as well as the top middle school boys’ and girls’ teams. Cost to register is $10 for each individual or $200 for an entire team. There is no better way for student skiers to spend a day of holiday break! Double Pole Derby – Saturday, 12.30.17, Cable, WI
The Double Pole Derby provides racing opportunities for skiers of all ages and abilities. For middle school and high school racers, the classic only mass start races begin at 10:00am. The high school course will provide a preview of this season’s Wisconsin High School Nordic Championships. The afternoon provides opportunity for college and citizen racers to join in the fun with a 14k mass start freestyle race. All races will take place on the beautiful Birkie Trail and start at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead in Cable, WI. In addition to great skiing, the day’s activities will include awards, prizes, participant swag, concessions in the heated Great Hall, and demos from Salomon, Rossignol, Fischer, and Fast Wax.
