December 7, 2019 is Global Fat Bike Day – You’re Encouraged to Ride Wherever You Are.

Hayward, Wis. (November 19, 2019) – The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (Birkie) and Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) are joining forces with New Moon Ski & Bike, Riverbrook Bike and Ski, and Mountain Bike Radio, to host the first joint Global Fat Bike Day Group Ride on Saturday, December 7, 2019. The ride will depart from the Samuel C. Johnson Family Outdoor Center at the OO Trailhead near Seeley, WI, at 10:00 a.m. and is a free, fun event for riders of all ages and abilities.

Multiple route options, to accommodate all conditions and abilities, will be offered and coordinated by group ride leaders. Whether you’re a seasoned rider looking for a challenging ride with friends or new to fat biking and simply want to connect with other riders, there will be a ride option for everyone. Following the ride, participants will gather for hot cocoa, coffee, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and good conversation in the Carlson Gathering Hall at the Samuel C. Johnson Family Outdoor Center.

Don’t own a fat bike? No problem! If you’d like to participate in the group ride, stop in at Riverbrook Bike and Ski or New Moon Ski & Bike, both in Hayward, WI, to schedule a rental for Global Fat Bike Day. If you’re new to fat biking or simply curious about the sport and not yet ready to ride in a group, you’re invited to try out a fat bike yourself. Both New Moon Ski & Bike and Riverbrook Bike and Ski will be offering demo rides at the OO Trailhead starting at 9:30 a.m. on Global Fat Bike Day, December 7, 2019. Riders can try out a fat bike at their own speed, ask questions, and enjoy meeting other fat bikers over coffee and cookies. Everyone is welcome!

If you aren’t in the Hayward, Seeley, or Cable, WI, areas but still plan to celebrate Global Fat Bike Day on your own, let us know. The Birkie will keep track of the miles ridden on behalf of the greater Birkie and CAMBA fat bike communities and will report the grand total after Global Fat Bike Day! The more miles the merrier! Make sure to grab a friend and record their miles, too. To submit your miles, please email ashley.shuman@birkie.com or post on the Facebook event.

If you are planning on attending the first annual Global Fat Bike Day group ride or have questions, please RSVP to the Facebook event (Go to Facebook, go to American Birkebeiner page, click on Events, click on Global Fat Bike Ride) or email Ashley at ashley.shuman@birkie.com.
