Registration for the 2020 Birkie Trail Run Festival opens January 1, 2020
Hayward, WI (January 2, 2020) – September 26, 2020 marks the 19th Birkie Trail Run Festival and the first-time-ever for this popular event to be held entirely at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead, Cable, WI. In addition, the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation is pleased to announce that the Birkie Trail Run half marathon, part of Birkie Trail Run Festival events, has once again been named the USA Track and Field (USATF) Half Marathon Trail Championship; the USATF is track and field’s national governing body. Registration opened for all Birkie Trail Run Festival events on January 1, 2020 at www.Birkie.com.
New Venue
The American Birkebeiner Trailhead adjoins the historic Telemark trails where the majority of 2020 Birkie Trail Run Festival events will be held. From forests and rolling hills, to increased single track trails, spectacular vistas, lakes and streams, glacial geologic features, and the iconic Birkie Trail, the new race courses will be varied and scenic. The Birkie Trail Run Festival is sponsored by Salomon and is hosted by the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF), nonprofit organizers of the event.
“Moving the Birkie Trail Run Festival to the American Birkebeiner Trailhead will improve the overall experience for runners and trekkers. Not only do we have physical infrastructure already in place at the Trailhead, but the variety of available trails is amazing,” said Ben Popp, Executive Director, ABSF. “Runners will experience incredible vistas from the top of Mt. Telemark and even more, fun, CAMBA single track trails on their journey to the finish line,” he continued.
USATF Half Marathon Trail National Championship
The USATF Half Marathon Trail National Championship event is a partnership between the ABSF and USATF. Elite athletes from across the nation and citizen runners alike will participate in the race.
“We are honored to host another USATF National Championship and welcome the nation’s best runners to the beautiful trails of the north woods,” said Ben Popp, ABSF Executive Director. “It’ll be an awesome day for all of our runners and trekkers.”
Registration
Registration for the Birkie Trail Run events opened on January 1, 2020. In September, an estimated 1200 runners and trekkers will take to the trails for a day of fun, camaraderie, and outdoor adventure in the beautiful forests of northwest Wisconsin. Nine events complete the roster, including the fast-growing 100K ultra marathon, 100K ultra marathon relay (4 person), marathon, marathon relay (3 or 6 person teams), half marathon, Nordic Trek, 5K run/walk, youth 5K, and 1K Kid’s Fun Run (free for ages 9 and under), and Dive for the Dirt obstacle course for kids – there is a north woods trail experience available for every ability level. Register for all events at www.birkie.com.
Cup-less Race
For a second year, the Birkie Trail Run Festival will be a completely cup-less event. Participants will bring their own water vessels or have the option of securing reusable and collapsible cups during the registration process. As part of Birkie Green, the ABSF’s sustainability and environmental responsibility initiative, going cup-less at this event alone will eliminate thousands of cups from landfills.
