# Trail to Fat Bike Birkie

We’re excited to invite you to **Trail to Fat Bike Birkie**. In partnership with New Moon, this program is a fantastic opportunity to learn and improve your fat biking skills in a fun and supportive environment! Whether you’re new to fat biking or looking to fine-tune your abilities, this program has something for everyone.

**Limited to 10 participants** – a great coach to participant ratio!

**When:** Sundays 1-2:30pm beginning Sunday, January 26  
**Where:** MTV Hub, Cable WI  
**Dates**: January 26 – March 2, plus Thursday, February 27 from 6-7:00pm  
**Coaches**: Join local rider Cody Hagberg and other area coaches  
**What:** Learn to fat bike or increase your skills! Each lesson will focus on a skill followed by a trail ride.

### Lesson Plan:

**Every Lesson:**

- Bike check – ABCs
- Helmet – bike or ski helmet
- Tire pressure – what’s appropriate for the conditions?
- Bike fit – saddle height, etc.
- Clothing – what’s the temperature and what’s appropriate?

**Lesson #1: Basic Skills**

- Level pedals
- One finger on each brake; feathering
- Eye scan
- READY position

**Lesson #2: Body Position**

- Ready position
- Bike Body separation
- Differences in snow vs other surfaces- more centered on bike, in saddle more, different gearing, etc.

**Lesson #3: Braking**

- Single finger
- Both brakes
- Modulation – apply brakes evenly
- Rear heel drops
- Differences in front vs rear brake

**Lesson #4: Cornering, Steering/Directional Control**

- Low, look lean
- Point hips

**Lesson #5: Climbing/Descending**

- Seated vs crouched/standing
- Descending in saddle
- Dismount and restart

**Thursday Night Ride:**

- Ride for fun!
