Paul Thompson Sets World Record at 77 – Living the Birkie Lifestyle On and Off the Trails
There’s more to disc play than golf and ultimate—and Birchlegger Paul Thompson proves it.
At 77 years old, Paul set a World Record in the Accuracy event at the Minnesota State Overall Championships last Saturday, going 16 of 28 and setting the mark for both the 70+ and 75+ divisions.
But Paul’s story goes far beyond a single competition. A lifelong adventurer and community leader, he has been:
- RPCV (Returned Peace Corps Volunteer) in Malaysian Borneo (1971–73)
- Board Member for RPCVs for Environmental Action & MNRPCV
- President of the Birchleggings Club with 20+ completed Birkies
- Founder and Co-Director of Cool Planet – inspiring neighborhood FUN~Action for Our Planet
- Special Operations with Citizens’ Climate Lobby – building political will for a livable future
Paul embodies what it means to live the Birkie lifestyle: staying active, connected, and passionate about sport, community, and the planet. Whether skiing, running, or setting world records in disc sports, Paul reminds us all that it’s never too late to chase new goals and inspire others along the way.
👏 Congratulations, Paul, on your incredible accomplishment and for showing us what’s possible at any age!
