Poling, from Eau Claire, has skied 25 Birkebeiners and written about the race for 40 years. He also has written books on the Green Bay Packers, baseball great Henry Aaron and the history of University of Wisconsin-Stout. This award-winning new book is an exhilarating behind-the-scenes journey into the history of America’s largest cross-country ski race.
Join us at the library as American Birkebeiner: The Nation’s Greatest Ski Marathon, author and skier Jerome P. Poling traces the remarkable history of the famed “Birkie,” from its modest origins in the early 1970s to its modern incarnation as an international Nordic-themed festival and multi-day racing event drawing more than 30,000 skiers and spectators. After his presentation, Jerome will be open to questions and answers.
Books will be available for purchase and for signing.
