Mike Brown was appointed to the ABSF’s Treasurer role of the Board of Directors in the fall of 2018. He also serves as the Treasurer for the Birkie Enterprises and the Lumberjack World Championships. In his volunteer role, he provides financial support and guidance based on two key mantras–is the ABSF living within its means and answering questions to allow the ABSF’s executive director and team to sleep well at night.

Mike also volunteers for St Paul, MN based non-profit Nordic ski club, Endurance United, since 2009. He’s held the role Secretary, Treasurer, and is currently the Board President. He also coaches master skiers for the club.

Unlike many others involved in Nordic skiing, Mike didn’t grow-up cross-country skiing. He can confirm that it’s not too late to start! He recalls that when he was younger that Nordic skiing was just glorified snow-shoeing. But that changed, on a mild winter evening in late December in the mid-2000s at a neighborhood 9-hole golf course. Thank you, Ben Popp and Chad Giese for sharing your sport with me. From that night forward, he began his journey into the sport that has led to skiing in many ski meccas across the U.S.A and in Canada. The Canmore Nordic center and Lake Moraine Rd in Lake Louise are among his favorite to visit. Of course, the Birkie trail is hard to beat. He enjoys skiing with his wife and daughter, best!

Mike lives in St Paul, MN with his wife Maggie. They have a daughter, Charlotte. He works for Target Corporation leading data and analytics work for Merchandising vendor negotiations.

He enjoys Americana music and plays guitar when he can. He can regularly be found on the River Rd in the Twin Cities, cycling, walking, or rollerskiing.
